Another 0x800CCC92 problem

Like so many before me, I too have an issue with this error. I run Outlook
2002 on a Vista machine. in the Email account I delete the accounts, fill in
the details, fill in the password, uncheck the SPA, check the remember my
password box. It works perfect, until I reopen Outlook and hit Send /
Receive. At this point I again need to fill my password in. The system
doesn't accept this password and so I must go back to the mail account and
fill in the password there. And guess what, for the next few minutes, the
problem is solved, until I swith off Outlook that is.

Any ideas?

Known issue with Outlook 2002 in Vista:
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/vista.htm

There is no workaround. All you can do is upgrade to
Outlook 2003 or later.

Will this problem also exist in Windows Mail?

Not sure what you're asking.
Does Windows Mail have a problem remembering passwords?
No, it doesn't. Windows Mail is specifically designed for Vista.
Outlook 2002 was obviously not designed for Vista.

Re: Another 0x800CCC92 problem

One thing I can vouch for is that Windows Mail ALWAYS remembers name and
password. WLM, on the other hand NEVER remembers, and it also stops me every
time and tells me my "cookies" aren't enabled (they are). So apparently I
have to go through a rigmarole everytime I want to access WLM.
Windows Mail, when you set it up correctly, is one click access and you
don't have to put up with flashing ads like with WLM/Hotmail. Of course if
you like that kind of thing - .
If I don't get one click access to the "new, improved, WLM" very soon I'm
outa there!
Let me know how you make out. Good luck, Wayne

Re: Another 0x800CCC92 problem

My WLM has never failed to remember passwords.
Also, the new WLM (version released May 31) does not have ads.
You must be using the older version called WLM-Desktop.

Well, my Windows Mail never failed to remember passwords. So we really
don't know that whatever makes Windows Mail forget them also makes Windows
Live Mail forget them.

Of course, one thing that will do it is having the server mistakenly reject
the correct password.

Nor did mine during the four months I used it.

My take is that WM is especially sensitive to data corruption from intrusive
antivirus programs. Compared to this newsgroup, the posts in the WLM newsgroup
have a much lower percentage of problems attributable to corruption problems.

I cannot explain why, since they started with the same mail storage system,
Windows Mail wasn't fixed at the same time Windows Live Mail was fixed. I
am (personally) not sure Windows Live Mail _was_ fixed.
