Having huge problems with Windows Mail

Hi

I have just bought a new PC which runs Windows Vista.

I cannot send or receive emails. Yesterday I was able to, but now I can't.
I get the following error message:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.busymummy.co.uk',
Server: 'mail.busymummy.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I have uninstalled McAfee to no avail.

Do you have any suggestions - I am getting desparate!

RE: Having huge problems with Windows Mail

Do you have automatic updates turned on? If so, check to see if update
KB929123 has been installed. If it has, uninstall it. I had the same problem
after the last batch of Windows Update. If you are also having problems
accessing the internet then check to see if you have got update KB933566
installed and uninstall that as well. Set both of these updates as 'hidden
updates' to prevent them from being re-installed. For information, I use
Norton Internet Security and have had no problems with it whatsoever.

Re: Having huge problems with Windows Mail

Did you go to the McAfee site and download and use their uninstaller?

Re: Having huge problems with Windows Mail

Whether significant or not, I have had the exact message, (substitute my
server for hers) for weeks. I don't have McAfee and it started long before
the 123 download.
It didn't affect my mail service except that it is annoying in that it pops
up all the time.
In my case it started with an Email address that was "invalid", and couldn't
be sent.
It was kijijispam.com and still can't be sent to.
The day of that infamous 123 update I lost my CD drive!

Re: Having huge problems with Windows Mail

Rachel,

Bummer. I and several others have had problems sending e-mails. Go to

www.oehelp.com/wmutil

and download Steve's utility to your desktop per his instructions. Then use
the utility, after unzipping, to compact your e-mail and the problem should
go away. It did for me and hopefully will for you.

Also, in the future, compact your e-mail every time the dialog appears
asking if you want to compact your e-mail.

Good luck and let me know what happens.

Oh, come on. You don't have any real ideas and WMUtil won't help here.
Go away.

RE: Having huge problems with Windows Mail

I unistalled KB929123 and nothing happened. I can send email but cannot
receive email. I send email to myself, check on the "send" box - yes, it was
send but no one knows where it's going. Not to Windows Mail, not to Comcast
mail, not to the T-Mobile Blackberry. Suggestions anyone?
