Vista - Compression

Every time I close Windows Mail a box appears: " Windows Mail can compress
yout emails"
How can I get rid of that?

That's not what it says. Let it do that and the message will go away for a
while. It does nothing to the actual messages, it compacts (removes wasted
space from) the database which does not contain the messages.

If I let it go, winmail freeze, the task stops while the memory used by the
process is slowly increasing over 100 000Ko. it looks like winmail doesn't
like my newsgroups archives (over 100 000 messages an some heavy attachments
).
Is there a solution other than using another newsgroup reader ?

While reading other threads I've discovered WMUtil...
WMUtil did it !
Problem solved, at least this workaround worked for me.

Not only do you appear to have sought out a solution in
existing threads I bet you also read the instructions!

That's not really in the spirit of the game around here.

Running Vista Ultimate on a Toshiba A205-S4639 laptop and receiving mail
fine with Windows Mail after resetting a new password. The next day when I
startup my Roadrunner server rejects my password. I must go to the
roadrunner help site and change my password. Shut down and then startup
again. Then go to Windows Mail and receive mail. It will work for awhile I
then shut down and the next day the same problem happens I cannot receive
mail and it rejects the new password that worked the day before. I am
running Avast virus checker after removing McAfee. A couple of times I have
called my provider Time Warner and complained but all they do is reset my
password and it will work for a day and then the same thing happens again.

I am not sure if it is Vista,Time Warner or Toshiba problem. Any help would
be appreciated TIA.

I am using RoadRunner (Time Warner) and have no problems.

Have you tried deleting the old account and creating a new account?

It might be a security program blocking the Registry change it needs to
make. A few, but not all, of the programs now doing this are:
Ad-aware's Ad-Watch
IBM Access Connections
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware
Norton AV
Spyware Blaster
Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks
Spybot- Teatimer
Spysweeper
Spyware Doctor
Windows Defender
Zone Alarm (free) 6.5 Reported to be fixed in later versions.

In the case of Zone Alarm 6.5 or Norton 2007 it actually has to be
uninstalled. Make sure the Windows Firewall is turned on until you
reinstall Zone Alarm.

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking and try the change.

I have a customer with an eerily similar problem. XP home, Outlook
Express, McAfee, RoadRunner.
Must reset the account password every day or so. The PC is sending out
SPAM.Cleaned the PC
(current Avast boot, current ad-aware safe mode, sys rstr off, deleted
temps, cached, rootkit revealer, etc. - nothing identified).
That night, the password was changed! RoadRunner sant the
acknowledgment email. RoadRunner says no support
call was logged at that time (which implies it was done via web page).
Event viewer shows no activity at that time
except for McAfee doing an update. No browser cached pages at that
time. No files created/modified other than McAfee activity.
I had the customer change their authentication question/answer to an
INCORRECT value to purposely thwart any third-party guesses.
A dump of XPs protected storage showed OE still had the last-known-
good password setting. Giving this to RoadRunner's webmail
would not let me in (showing the password had truly been changed).

In short, I think I have covered all the bases. The simplest
explanation is that malicious software has compromised McAfee and it
is
actually issuing the HTTP transaction to change the RoadRunner account
password. I fully realize how unlikely this is and how little
sense this makes as a strategy (for either a person or a program).

This is driving me nuts. Can anyone suggest alternative explanations
or approaches or maybe a support group I can join?
