| | Re: Adding an email account to my Windows Mail This is from an earlier post: -- Ronald Sommer Yes I was able to pick up the message from here - in fact I have deleted them all except one to see if that was the problem. I am still unable to use windows mail. The error message is: The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.busymummy.co.uk', Server: 'mail.busymummy.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E Is is the socket error? I am running out of ideas.... | | RE: Adding an email account to my Windows Mail Andrew - I was having the exact same issue yesterday. I use a mail server that is managed by a third party and called them - they ran me through a couple of things, including trying to telnet their server via a dos prompt. I couldn't even do this telnet function - then they asked me if I was using Vista because apparently Vista is not automatically functional with telnet...you have to activate it via your control panel. You may want to try this. It did not work for me but it may for you. The second thing I did was I disabled my antivirus software's (I use Spysweeper) email scanning function - after I did this the emails started flowing through. It kind of defeats the purpose of having antivirus software as I would imagine a high % of viruses are transmitted via email...but it is the only way I could figure out how to get it working. You may want to try the same thing. Good luck! -- Chuck "Andrew Barker" wrote: > sorry my error message is: > > The connection to the server has failed. | | Re: Adding an email account to my Windows Mail Norton antivirus is known to be incompatible with Windows Mail. Uninstall it, reboot and try your mail again. Once your mail is working properly, download and install the free Avast antivirus, but be sure to unselect its mail scan option. If you still have a problem after Norton is uninstalled, reply back and we can give you additional help.
