Port Problem with Vista Windows Mail

I cannot get Windows Mail configured correctly. Seems my system is not
listening on POP3 port 110, or SMTP port25.

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'your_account',
    Server:mail.cocmast.net, Protocol:POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): NO,
Socket error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800ccc0e

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are on Comcast's network, ports 110 & 25 should work.
If you are away from home, then you may have to use SSL with ports 995 &
    465.

Yes I use Comcast, but when doing a netstat at the command prompt, it shows
that 110 and 25 are not listening.

Is that a verbatim copy of the error message? The server name has a typo.

    Gary,

    Here it is verbatim:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.comcast.net',
    Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

If you are running either McAfee or Norton antivirus, uninstall them
because they are not compatible with Windows Mail.
How long has this problem been going on? Did Windows Mail ever
    work for you?

Are you able to ping and tracert to mail.comcast.net?
FWIW, netstat shows no mail port activity for me either.

I do have McAfee installed currently, but have never had any email issues,
while running Outlook. Now Outlook and MS Mail are not working, this started
about 3 weeks ago. I have 25 & 110 open on the McAfee firewall.

It can take McAfee anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to do
its dirty work. You've got nothing to lose but a few minutes of your time
by uninstalling McAfee and seeing if that makes the difference.

Gary, the removal of McAfee worked. So will just using the combo of a
router, Windows defender/firewall be sufficient security?

    Thanks
