| | resotre messgaes from msmessagestore I've been running Vista Ultimate for a few months and notice that my Windows Mail Inbox messages date back only a couple of weeks. But I also see that Windows Mail (under "maintenance" section) is compacting the database on shutdown after every 100 runs. The WindowsMail.MSMessageStore file size is 4 MB, and I assume that my earlier messages are in that file, but cannot find a way to open that file (to read my earlier messages). So, is there a way to open the WindowsMail.MSMessageStore file so I can read my earlier messages? TIA for any help! Gee |

| | Re: resotre messgaes from msmessagestore Are you talking about a POP account? AFAIK, Windows Mail has no mechanism for deleting or archiving email messages on it's own. What you see is what you have... Is your Inbox View set to Show all messages? Do you have other folders? Do you have rules to move messages? | | Re: resotre messgaes from msmessagestore Yes Dave, it is a POP account. Apparently Widows Mail DOES have a mechanism for removing messages from the Inbox (under the Tools menu/Options/Advanced (tab)/Maintence (button). It's called: "Compact the database on shutdown every x (number) runs. I can disable (or alter the number of runs on) this feature, but cannot open (or restore) the messages already compacted...? Also, I have created no other folders or rules to move messages. Gee PS Windows Mail is set to "See all messages". | | Re: resotre messgaes from msmessagestore That Maintenance setting does not remove any messages from the Inbox. All it does is remove spaces in the database formerly occupied by deleted messages. | | Re: resotre messgaes from msmessagestore AFAIK, the compaction only reclaims deleted items space from the store. It doesn't delete messages.
