| | Re: windows mail will not open .jpg Open "Default Programs", which you can reach from the start menu or via the Control Panel. Click on "Associate...", and wait for the list to become populated. Scroll down to .jpeg and .jpg. Double-click on each in turn and select Windows Photo Gallery as the default. | | Re: windows mail will not open .jpg When you wrote "...set associations not in control panel...", what did you mean? If you view Control Panel in "Classic View" there should be an icon called "Default Programs." Open it and then open "Associate a file type or protocol with a program." There you will find what program is associated with jpg files. By default it is Windows Photo Gallery. | | Re: windows mail will not open .jpg No .jpg or .jpeg on the list of file extensions? That's a new one for me. Perhaps someone else know how to add a missing extension. | | Re: windows mail will not open .jpg Hmmm...that's odd. You need to add the jpg and jpeg to that list. I'm not sure how to do it "officially" but I was able to add a new extension this way: Rename any graphics file (doesn't really matter at this point...it could even be a text file) to "something.jpg". Right-click on "something.jpg" and choose Properties. In the "General" tab, click on "Change". This will open an "Open With" window. Select the program you would like jpg files to open with (I chose Windows Photo Gallery). Then click on the OK button. Now jpg will show up in the "Set Associations" listing mentioned below. I just tried it by creating a fictitous "wam" file extension and it worked. Repeat the same process for the jpeg extension. I'm sure there is a more elegant way to do this but it worked for me.
