Transfer mails and contacts from old pc to new pc

can anyone help me with easy to follow instructions on how i can get all my
emails and contacts from my old pc (with outlook express) to my new pc with
windows mail.
Nothing came over when i carried out the easy transfer process from pc to pc
using a usb cable.
Please anyone replying - treat me as a computer idito and spell it out for
me in basic terms!!!!
thank you to anyone who reads but especially to anyone who replies and can
help me!!
Confused....

Why not just follow the instructions that can be found in
your Windows Help and Support facility?

Click Start Orb (bottom left hand corner of screen)
then Click Help and Support.

Then select Windows Basic > Getting started with email >
Then type "import emai outlook" into the search window.

That will present you with options including...
Import messages into Windows Mail from Outlook Express

Follow those instructions.

It is highly unlikely that anyone here can improve on the
simpleton nature of those instructions.

Learning to use your computer will pay you back in the long run.

So, simply put... use the help you already have.

If you used Outlook Express on the old computer, see

Re: Transfer mails and contacts from old pc to new pc

Hi Julian - i genuinely appreciate yr reply and yr suggestion of self help,
however, it it was a simple as all that, I would have used the 'help' section
to start with, but from the threads concerning this issue, it obviously isn't
quite as straight forward as it should be!!! I am currently working my way
thru Frank Saunders reply and trying to sort it.
Again, thanks for taking the time to reply to my post

Re: Transfer mails and contacts from old pc to new pc

Hi Frank, thanks for pointing me in right direction. I am following
instructions (as best I can), but get stuck when it comes to finding the dbx
files to import. I can see them in C: but not when I browse during the
wizard. Can you advise what I might be doing wrong at this stage please?
I feel I am so close to fixing this!!
Still confused.....

Two things.

The attempt to make things idiot proof
is undermined by the ingenuity of the truly idiotic.

Rather than give someone a fish, teach them how to fish.

Make a folder on your desktop named OEMail.
Copy ALL of the DBX files to it including Folders.dbx
Use File | Import | Messages | Microsoft Outlook Express 6
Import from an OE store directory and brows to
C:\Users\<YourName>\Desktop\OEMail
You don't need to see the DBX files. Your importing from that folder.
WinMail knows to look for the DBX files, especially Folders.dbx which will
tell it what other folder to import from.
