You are referring to the Deleted Items folder in Windows Mail, correct?

Yes I am. It's that folder that will not let me empty the stuff out and
totally delete it. It seems that the notes themselves are gone but the
headers remain showing as though the mail is still there.

Depending on which folder has the stuck headers, you can try the fix
    detailed here:
    Windows Mail problems

Caution: Some users report undesirable side effects from this fix.
Personally I'd skip the 'fixes' and upgrade WM to WLM:

    Re: trying to delete mail

    Gary

It is the Deleted Items folder. Below is the original post by the OP . He mistakenly called WM as OE

For some reason my delete folder is not allowing me to delete any mail. When
I right click on the folder and select delete mail the next pop up is the one
asking me if I really want to delete and I'll check off yes. The box closes
and nothing is deleted. It's the same thing when selecting a single or
multiple items to delete same pop up and same nothing happens. Anyone know
    about this?
    Thanks
    Brian

well I did download WLM and it has been the proverbial from the frying pan
into the fire for me. Now not only does this thing not work properly but I
cannot find my address book (contacts) how to import them nor can I find any
of my email or sent mail prior to "upgrading" and I seem to have lost my
archive folder that had some fairly important things in it also. I have to
get some sleep for now before this thing gets me crazy.

Some have reported that if you go to Edit | Empty Deleted items multiple

Okay folks, again thanks for all of your great patience and help in this
matter, being not too computer talented it has taken me quite some time to
get a grip on this live mail thing, I've got it all working and transferred
over but I need help on one item.
I cannot seem to figure out how to get my address book (contacts) imported
into the windows live mail program. The usual import export things don't seem
to work in it. Any advice is once again appreciated.

    Re: trying to delete mail

You'll find support for Windows Live Mail (vs Windows Mail vs Outlook
    Express) in this public newsgroup:

    microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

    Via the web-interface:
    http://www.microsoft.com/communities...e.mail.desktop

    Via your newsreader:
    news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...e.mail.desktop

I'll not confuse things even more by crossposting this reply to that
newsgroup. Start a new thread there, please, Brian.

Well, I'm not sure how WLM should be characterized, but Microsoft
has announced it to be the "replacement" for WM.
All I can say is that the current WLM beta is less buggy for me than WM.
Several WM bugs have been fixed in WLM. MS is actively
developing WLM and pro-actively soliciting input on suggested
    improvements.

This is in sharp contrast to what has been happening (not happening?)
    with WM.
