    Windows Mail loses passwords

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium. Every few days, when checking for
e-mail, a window will pop up and ask me to enter my username and password.
When I open up the account and click on the Server tab, the E-mail Username
and Password fields will be blank, even though Remember Password is checked.
I'll reenter the information and it will work for a few days, but then it
    disappears again. What's the deal?

Are you running a non-compatible antivirus, either McAfee or Norton?
If so, you will need to uninstall those or else Windows Mail will not
    function properly.

IMHO this is a common prejudice.

I have installed the latest version of Norton AV and there are no
    problems with mails.

Both Norton and McAfee antivirus have a long track record of causing
database corruption in Outlook Express and now Windows Mail.
Anyone who has worked in the field of PC technical support is aware
of this. Sometimes it takes a couple of months before the problem shows up.

I have been working with OE (exclusively) since at least IE 4.0.
I *always* had Norton AV besides that.
Never any problem with this combination.

The same in my networked Lab (where I'm the only "technical support"
    person.

    So I'll wait and see ;-) ;-)
