| Guest | Windows Mail not deleting received mail from POP3 server For some reason Windows Mail is not deleting SOME of the emails off of the POP3 server that I have received into my inbox. The "leave a copy of messages on server" box is NOT checked in the advanced tab. The messages that stay on the server are retrieved over and over again on every send/receive and my inbox gets filled with multiple copies of the same messages. Strangely, it does not happen to all inbound messages. Does anyone have any of why this is happening? |

| Guest | Re: Windows Mail not deleting received mail from POP3 server The email client program sends the command to delete downloaded emails from the server only after ALL emails have been successfully downloaded. Sometimes there is a corrupted email on the server which prevents the download from finishing, so the delete command is not issued, and the same emails will be downloaded on the next cycle. To fix this, you will have to use your provider's web interface (webmail) to look at the emails sitting on the server. The stuck one will typically be the largest, and will need to be deleted. I have gone into webmail and manually deleted the offenders to stop the constant inflow, but there has to be a reason this is happening. As I write this reply I have already received 16 copies (I have check for new mail set for 1 minute) of the post reply notification from Microsoft regarding this issue (all having the same received time and date), but 3 other emails were transferred to my inbox with no issue. This is a new PC with Vista and Windows Mail and I did not have this issue with my last PC using Outlook Express. I have seen several other posts with the same issue, but were described slightly differently. I wonder if there could be a systemic issue with Windows Mail? |

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. It provides no protection not provided by the regular resident protection. Beside that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com |

I would recommend to switch to Windows Live Mail Beta. It is a lot less likely to be corrupted. See this link below for both. Windows Live Mail Beta is at the top under Notes.
