New Contact Window Disappears (Vista user)

Every Time I try to add a NEW CONTACT, I get a brief flash of a window
opening and then it disappears. Same thing happens when I press the NEW
CONTRACT GROUP button.

I don't have a solution, but I also have this problem. Besides these
symptoms, I can't edit a contact, and can't import or export a contact. If I
try edit I get the fast flash window, but in trying to import or export, I
get a popup with e red X in it and no test except an OK button. This is
dismissable butof little help. I tried to reinstall Windows mail, but this
didn't fix the problem. I am able to add a contact by using add sender to
contacts and can also delete the contact.

Re: New Contact Window Disappears (Vista user)

At this stage I guess all we can do is hope that someone else has found a
solution. I was able to import contracts fromOUTLOOK 2000 using Windows PVS
format . Now when I try to touch the Import button I also get a big red X in
the window. I thought maybe it had to do with pop-ups or something to that
effect. Needless to say it is frustrating especially sice I had to give up a
great tool (OUTLOOK 2000). I always use to tell peole to stay away from the
"bleeding edge" and now I appear to be there myself.

Re: New Contact Window Disappears (Vista user)

Big surprise guys, So do i;
As far as i can determine, it seems to have something to do with the use
of an Office version older than 2003.
While it is stated in many other Vista newsgroup topics that Vista
supports Office 2000 upward, there seems to be a conflict between Outlook and
Windows Mail, that is barely hinted at, but that no one is actively
aknowledging (All being too buzy, sucking up to MS. They are in complete
denial that Vista is anything other than the greatest gift to mankind by the
almighty.)
I am using Office 2000 with Outlook 2002 (Never had any problems with
that combination in XP SP2) and have the same problem not only with Contacts
but also with ALL Office applications. I have found the cause to be
activating an Office app while online; after which it becomes nessessary to
repair Office by using the installation disk, BUT it does not fix the problem
of adding Contacts in Vista (which is a Vista problem, not an Office
problem). Get the picture ?
Being that one only ever uses Windows Mail while online there is a
permanent flaw in the source code, which can only be repaired by reinstalling
Vista, but the first time you go online the problem WILL return.
My next attempt will be to try adding contacts to Outlook instead. There
may be a problem to do with which of the two progs is DEFAULT mail handler,
that can be easely investigated.
If you can live without it, then delete Outlook. Vista has its own
Calender & notes etc !
As i need Outlook to Sync my PDA, i cannot delete it.
Good luck !

Re: New Contact Window Disappears (Vista user)

For all you guys with the "big red x" problem [unable to create new contacts, import, export, etc.], I bet you installed (as I did too) Outlook 2000 on Vista. And, to get it to work you copied wab32res.dll and wab32.dll to C:\Windows\System32 (from C:\Program Files\Common Files\System).

The only problem is that a Vista update in June updated these files in C:\Program Files\Common Files\System, Windows Contacts still sees the OLD versions, thus causing the problem.

I have given up on using Outlook 2000 and have resigned to using Contacts, so I simply deleted wab32res.dll and wab32.dll from C:\Windows\System32.

I rebooted and now Windows Contacts is working great!
