| Guest | UK English Spell Checker? Can anyone tell me please if it possible to enable Vista's Windows Mail to spell check in UK English instead of the US variety? Can't believe it only works with the four languages shown? Never a problem in OE. I have Office XP installed. Is is perhaps possible to make Windows Mail use the existing Microsoft UK dictionary and my own existing custom.dic? TIA V |

My Word dictionary is located at C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Proof\Cutom.dic The Windows Mail dictionary is located at C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\UserDictionary.lex Both are regular text files, so you should be able to cut and paste. Thanks Dave - that at least will help a bit. However, after all the years and $$$$ of development, and based on the starting point of OE, I simply can't believe that MS only came up with four languages! Amazing. Perhaps Vista's SP1 will include other dictionaries? V |

| Guest | Re: UK English Spell Checker? Some of us suspect that MS just threw Windows Mail together just to get it out the door. They have recently released a beta version called Windows Live Mail, which I suspect is/will be their main focus. http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas "Victor Delta" <nospam@nospam.com> wrote in message news:uVBvwXxxHHA.4640@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > "Dave" <dave@beepbeep.com> wrote in message > news:epiGUDxxHHA.1164@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >> Only the 4 languages were provided. >> You should be able to open your other dictionary and copy the contents to >> the Windows Mail one. >> >> My Word dictionary is located at >> C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Proof\Cutom.dic >> >> The Windows Mail dictionary is located at >> C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows >> Mail\UserDictionary.lex >> >> Both are regular text files, so you should be able to cut and paste. > > Thanks Dave - that at least will help a bit. > > However, after all the years and $$$$ of development, and based on the > starting point of OE, I simply can't believe that MS only came up with > four languages! They say they are starting to work on WinMail again. Haven't seen any results yet, though, and a lot of the fixes in WLM should be pretty easy to port over. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM http://www.fjsmjs.com |

Amazing. What's even far more absurd: WM uses it's own proofing system even if Office2007 is installed on the machine. I simply can not understand why there is not at least an *option* to use Office dictionaries (as Outlook Express had as the default). Rainald |

Is there a forum somewhere (like those in Connect) for discussions on the bugs and shortcomings of WM (which IMHO is not too bad!). Rainald |

| Guest | Re: UK English Spell Checker? The problem with this is that the custom dictionary is only checked if the word is not found in the standard dictionary. So, if a UK user types "color" instead of "colour", it will never be flagged.
