Working with Yahoo

I have a Yahoo email account. I use 3 computers, one running Outlook, one
running OE and one, I recently bought, a new computer with Vista and
therefore WIndows Mail. I opened up Windows Mail to see what it would do.
It imported all my emails from Yahoo and - without my knowledge - deleted
them off the server. This means that I can't access them from my other
computers now. Can anyone advise me
1) how to get these emails back onto Yahoo?
2) if not, how to transfer them to the other two computers?
3) at least how to back them up in case this new computer crashes or gets
lost?
4) Can I import the address book from Yahoo and if so, will it delete that
as well?!
TIA

Re: Working with Yahoo

First of all, there is nothing unique about Windows Mail.
All POP mail clients by default remove mail from the server after
it's been downloaded. To answer your specific questions:

1. It would have been helpful if you had mentioned how many emails
had been removed from Yahoo. The only way to return the emails is to
send them back, one by one, but that's not feasible if the number is large.

2. You should be able to search the Vista computer for .eml files, save
them to a flash drive or network folder, then drag the .eml files to a folder
in OE on the other computers.

3. You can make a copy of the
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail folder.

4. You can import a Yahoo address book; it won't be deleted from Yahoo.

Re: Working with Yahoo

Thanks - that's helpful. I must say, tho, that I didn't expect Windows Mail
to even import messages never mind delete them when I just opened it up!
Outlook didn't delete anything even when I asked it to import messages.

Re: Working with Yahoo

Microsoft, in an attempt to make programs more user friendly, is
doing more and more of this automated import of accounts and settings.
As you found out, sometimes this can backfire.

Re: Working with Yahoo

I just had the same problem with my sister's computer. She has a lot of mails
on Yahoo ! and because of Windows Mail every thing is lost. All has been
deleted. How can I do. I do not have 14 hours to send it back one by one.
Should not Microsoft think about ALL the users. For example people who used
Outlook Express without any problem before, explaining that in this version
all mail will be deleted...

Thanks
