POP3 and Windows Mail

Hi,

I have just bought a new PC with Windows Vista and Mail. I am finding that
neither of my two ISPs (BT Yahoo and Google Mail) offer the automatic setup
of Windows Mail (although they do with Outlook and lots of other email
programmes like Eudora etc etc).

I have managed to set up my BT Yahoo acount manually but can't get Google
Mail to work.

Can someone explain why Windows Mail is not an automatic setup option with
ISPs and does anyone know what the problem could be with Google Mail?

Thanks very much.

Morag

What have you done to get GMail to work? Have you followed the
instructions in the GMail Help section and turned on POP3 at GMail?

Hi,

Thanks very much for your post. I have followed all the instructions in the
GMail help and POP3 is turned on (it was turned on anyway for when I used my
old computer). I put in all the correct server port numbers, ticked the SSL
boxes for ingoing and outgoing mail and ticked the authentification box but
still no joy.

Any ideas? Thanks again.

Hello again,

I have pasted all the relevant screenshots into a Word doc but I can't paste
it here as it says its too large (its just over 1Mb). If you can give me an
email address I can email it to you?

Thanks

Re: POP3 and Windows Mail

Hi,

This was the kind of link I had been looking at, but it also had:

"*The order of 'Outgoing' and 'Incoming' mail server fields varies by
version. Make sure you enter the correct information in each field."

That was what I had done - mixed up the server port numbers - what an idiot.
Anyhow its all working perfectly now - thanks for your help.

Hi Esther

As Morag found, you need to follow the instruction on GMail to the
letter. Once done GMail will work with no problems

Morag: It's good to know you're up and running and thanks for posting
back that you'd resolved the issue.
