| | Microsoft Mail - Server will not respond I can no longer send or receive emails through Microsoft Mail. My internet still works and I can access email through my provider (comcast) web site. The issue is that I get a "Your POP3 server has not responded in 60 seconds...". The error message is " Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19". I have spent an hour on the phone with my internet provider and they find no problems. I would love to just delete Microsoft Mail and reload it hoping that would fix the problem. I can't figure out how to do this. Any suggestions on what this problem could be? |

Check and make sure your antivirus program has all of it's email scanning options turned off. This is a redundant feature that can corrupt Windows Mail. Plus, you will still be protected by your antivirus's real-time resident monitoring protection. Norton and McAfee seem to be the worst offenders with Windows Mail problems even with email scanning off, while Avast or AVG has not had any problems reported so far. Avast - http://avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html AVG - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff Also check to see if you have a stuck "undeletable" message in one of your mailbox folders. If you do, then do the section for the folder that you have the stuck message in below. Windows Mail problems Hope this helps, Shawn |

| | Re: Microsoft Mail - Server will not respond This problem may be caused by your antivirus program. Windows Mail is incompatible with most McAfee and Norton antivirus programs. If you are using either of those two, it is best to uninstall it and replace it with a more compatible antivirus, such as the free version of Avast: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html Gary VanderMolen "NigelRasta" <NigelRasta@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:8E95A1E2-A85F-4928-A406-6763B794ACF4@microsoft.com... >I can no longer send or receive emails through Microsoft Mail. It provides no protection not provided by the regular resident protection. Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and should be uninstalled. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM Do not send mail. |
