| | Re: pop3 server with hotmail It should be possible to handle your domain email in a more user-friendly fashion. You said "it came back with an error." An error message from Windows Mail? If so, right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here. We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Robin" <Robin@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:0282BE0B-55F9-4D1A-AD95-1F0077A6D59E@xxxxxx Quote: > Sorry about that. | | Re: pop3 server with hotmail Thanks for including the complete error message. It makes trouble- shooting so much easier. What you experienced is normal. As a general rule, the owner of the SMTP server must be the same as the one providing your Internet connection at that moment. For more on this see http://www.postcastserver.com/help/P..._Blocking.aspx In order to make this work for you, I need two pieces of information. Are you sending from home only, and if so, who is your Internet connection provider at home? -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Robin" <Robin@xxxxxx> wrote in message news BA1078B-9F10-4151-8B48-0F74D2B45BBF@xxxxxxQuote: > Okay its working somewhat... lol > > I can receive but not send. | | Re: pop3 server with hotmail Here are the steps to take: 1. In Windows Live Mail go to Tools, Accounts, select your Modernelements mail account, click Properties, Servers. Change the name of the outgoing (SMTP) server to smtphm.sympatico.ca. Do not change the incoming server. Also, make sure that the "My server requires authentication" option is checked. Click the adjacent "Settings" button. Select "Log on using" then enter your @sympatico.ca email address, and the associated password. Click OK. 2. Go to the Advanced tab and enable the SSL option for the outgoing server. Again, do not change any receiving parameters. Click OK. Try sending. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Robin" <Robin@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:7CDBA0A0-7874-4CB2-B812-25367D2B2F95@xxxxxx Quote: >I am sending only from home at the this time. My service provider is >Bell - > Sympatico. server on Port 25. End of story, and it's the same with Rogers. Second, if you are sending from home with the Sympatico server specified as the SMTP server, *sometimes their listed settings do not work*. The Sympatico mail pages specify that SSL must be turned on, but I have found that in some clients (such as Outlook 2007) this doesn't work. In that case, *Auto* may work. Retrieving mail from your business mail server should not be an issue. The problem is only with sending. You should ask your mail administrator for an alternate port setting that isn't on Port 25, because neither Bell or Rogers will allow you to send on Port 25 except through *their* servers.
