| | Cannot send E mails Hi guys, this is driving me crazy. I have just put together a new computer and thought I would use Vista as my OS. I installed it OK, had a bit of trouble installing AVG virusguard but eventually got it working. I got the system working nicely and downloaded my emails, all OK until I tried to send one!! I tired using Outlook and Windows Mail but both failed in a similar fashion, Outlook tells me that the SMTP port is wrong?? set to 25. It works on my other computers(XP) on my small home network. I use BT internet as my ISP and it is a BT email address. I saw one of the posts saying try port 587, but that didn't work on either email programme?? I have already stripped it out and re installed from scratch and it is exactly the same? I have removed the AVG, still the same, I have switched off the Firewall, no difference?? Any ideas or suggestions, I feel like ditching Vista and going back to good old XP, at least it works!! Regards and living in hope of salvation Peter |

| | Re: Cannot send E mails Stay with port 587 because that's what BT wants you to use now. We will need to see more details of the error message you get. Right-click on the error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here. In Outlook, go to Tools, click Options, go to the Mail Setup tab, click e-mail accounts, with view or change existing e-mail accounts ticked, click next, select the account from which you are sending this message and receiving the error if you have more than one account, click Change, click More Settings, go to Outgoing server and place a check next to "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication," place a check next to use the same settings as my incoming server, click apply and ok and see if that resolves the issue. You may need to close an re-open Outlook for the settings to fully apply. -- Michael Solomon Backup is a PC user's best friend DTS-L.Org: http://www.dts-l.org/ |
