People in this group will help you, free of charge,
to get it working if you give them a chance.
What is the problem?
Are you getting error messages?
Please read this...

The last thing I really need right now is someone telling me to read "how to
write a good post" seriously, given the fact that most people on here have
played with and failed at getting a new product working that should have
apparently gone under a bit more testing before release...the frustration
should be understandable. I am far from a newbie when it comes to computers
and programs and I have set up many email accounts. This one has issues. And
yes...I am getting the same error message that many people are getting.
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'webmail.adelphia.net',
Server: 'webmail.adelphia.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

That is not true.

Do you think M$ should have altered Vista to cope with
the crapware tools that PC manufacturers receive money to
include in their builds instead of the working tools that are free?
There are hardly any problems with Windows Mail on systems that
haven't been infected by incompatible software providing the settings
are correct.

It is, but it is misplaced.
PC manufacturers, Crap AV software, and incompetant ISPs
are the bad guys when it comes to Vista email problems.

But it is your fault..
You have not specified the correct server name.
Adelphias POP and SMTP servers are called "mail.adelphia.net"
Change the nonsensical "webmail.adelphia.net" to the correct name in

note. both POP3 and SMTP

I would suggest that you start by asking Adelphia how you should set up
WinMail to receive their email. Getting the server names right is the first
step.

I wouldn't be surprised if she hadn't even asked them or even
bothered to look at their web site but just allowed her prejudices
to run riot.

Hi Sarah,
Double check with Adelphia to make sure that your POP3 and SMTP server names are correct or if there is a typo.
AND
Make sure your antivirus program has all of it's email scanning options turned off. This is a redundant feature that can corrupt Windows Mail. Plus, you will still be protected by your antivirus's real-time resident monitoring protection. Norton and McAfee seem to be the worst offenders with Windows Mail problems even with email scanning off, while Avast or AVG has not had any problems reported so far.
Avast - http://avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
AVG - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
Hope this helps,
Shawn
As Frank indicated, you have the server name incorrect. Go to Adelphia's
website and look for the instructions on how to set up for OE and that will
be the same as for Vista.
Also disable any antivirus software set to scan email. See

The trouble with that approach,
ie. consulting the responsible party,
is that it offers little scope for a rant.

Where I live Adelphia went to Comcast. Other areas went to Time Warner.
If you are still on an Adelphia address, your email addresses will be
changing if they haven't already. The web site for Adelphia here is no
longer available.
