Strange Behavor in Windows Mail

When I open Windows Mail, the screen jumps several times. I have Windows
Vista Home Premium, running McAfee AV Software.

Does anyone know why this happens and how I can prevent it from happening?
Thanks.

RE: Strange Behavor in Windows Mail

The same thing is happening to mine; I also have Windows Mail w/Windows Vista
Home Premium. It is taking a long time opening and I get error messages.
This started about 3/4 days ago. Thanks for any help out there. Mae

Hi Shabacca,

Make sure your antivirus program has all of it's email scanning options turned off. This is a redundant feature that can corrupt Windows Mail. Plus, you will still be protected by your antivirus's real-time resident monitoring protection. Norton and McAfee seem to be the worst offenders with Windows Mail problems even with email scanning off, while Avast or AVG has not had any problems reported so far.

Then for the slow opening, see this link for how to fix it.

Re: Strange Behavor in Windows Mail

Uninstall McAfee (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 ). There is a known
problem with the message list jumping around when starting up that one
cannot prevent at the moment.

Re: Strange Behavor in Windows Mail

I found another solution. I ran McAfee’s Virtual Technician and it found
that I had a missing a file.

I completely uninstalled McAfee AV, using Windows uninstall and also
McAfee’s uninstall program.

Then I reinstalled McAfee AV.

Windows Mail now opens quickly and the screen does not jump.

I hope this helps someone who want's to keep their McAfee AV.

Re: Strange Behavor in Windows Mail

You haven't learned your lesson.
If you continue using McAfee AV with Windows Mail, you will
regret it sooner or later.
