Which are the best email filters?

Hi Zygy,

If you are using Windows Mail, then only use the Junk filter settings and Message rules to filter you email messages. Any third party filter, like a antivirus program, will corrupt Windows Mail and leave stuck "undeletable" messages in you mailboxes and worse.

Thank you for the advice, but how do I stop unwanted emails coming
through?Windows' Mail Junk filter does not filter many, only the very
obvious ones and I am daily invaded with marketing emails, which I would
like to stop and/or bounce back as MailWasher used to do on XPs.

Zygy,

It depends on your situation. You could set the junk filter to "Safe" so only address on your safe senders list will only get through to your Inbox and everything else will go to the Junk folder.

If your like me though and you never know who you will get email from, then you could set the junk filter to "High" and also use your email provider's filter to block the domains and or addresses of the spammers. Of course, you may be addding to the block senders list a lot.

If you get a ton of email and or you rely on them for business, then you might think about switching to Outlook. It is more expensive, but it may be better. You can read up on it here:

Do not use any 'bounceback' feature. Except for legitimate companies,
spammers seldom use their own email address in the 'From' field.
It is likely to be some innocent third party.

I'm having Outlook 2007 too. But I do not see really important
differences as far as SPAM-filtering is concerned.
The main thing is to have a Provider who is able to sort things out.
At our university we have a most efficient system and hardly any SPAM
gets through.

Thank you for letting us know about Outlook's filtering capability. You beat me on editing my post to say "May". I must agree with you on the provider's filter. It is the easiest way.

Sorry, NO!
Not the "easiest" one.
The *ONE*and*ONLY* one.

As to my experience one can do whatever one wants, one does not get rid
of the pest of SPAM if things get through to one's mail-account on the
ISP's mail-server.
Junk-mails have to be killed prior to reaching the account.
Nothing else is really viable.

It may cost a few $$$ more for having efficient SPAM-filters working
with sorting out the trash. But for sure it's worth it.

I never used Outlook, so that is why I said "May" be better at filtering. I could not confirm it was better.

I agree you should do whatever you can to keep the SPAM from ever reaching your inbox. Oh, how I hate SPAM. I meant that it would be easier to use your own email provider's filters than trying to find a good filter that is compatible with Windows Mail and not corrupt it. This pretty much does leave the provider as the only one. (haha)
