Temporary Failure message!

Hey!

Below, you will find the message I received after sending an email to
a friend. I'm trying to decide if he lost power, etc. or if I've been
blacklisted. When I click on his name in this message, it says
"FORBIDDEN You don't have permission to access / on this server". I
know he's been having a lot of email trouble (lost service for about a
month, etc) and he lives in a higher elevation, if that has any effect
on his service. I was also wondering if it is coming from his end or
possibly from something that could be going wrong on mine! Any help
would be appreciated.

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification

THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.

Delivery to the following recipient has been delayed:
recipient's name.com

Message will be retried for 2 more day(s)

Technical details of temporary failure:
TEMP_FAILURE: Could not initiate SMTP conversation with any hosts:
[recipient's name.com (1): Connection refused]

Re: Temporary Failure message!

Did you edit that non-delivery notice in any way?
I don't see a valid email address. Can you tell us your friend's
email address (leaving off the part in front of the @ symbol).

Thanks for responding....I did not alter in any way. In fact, I
copied and pasted except for the friend's name.

In the message, it was always just:

His name.com

I do think he has his own domain.
His normal email address is:

his name@hisname.com

Does that help?

Re: Temporary Failure message!

So, in other words, this friend has a domain name that consists of
his name +.com.
Sounds like your friend does not have his domain DNS set up properly.
Does anyone else have trouble emailing him?
I have no way of checking his domain DNS setup for correctness
without knowing the exact domain name.

Gary.

I don't know if other people are having trouble emailing him. I guess
my biggest concern is this....Would I get a temporary failure message,
instead of a permanent failure message, if he decided he didn't want
to get emails from me anymore? when I looked up some information on
the web, it made it sound like a temp message happened more often,
when someone was having trouble with their connection (i.e. power
outage, etc.) and I do know that he did have some trouble recently.
He's pretty 'computer savvy, but he works out of town a lot, so I'm
not sure that he has that much time to work on his email account when
something does go wrong. I guess I'm feeling a little paranoid! ha!

Not that computer savvy! =)

If this guy is really savvy he might be able to fake a temporary failure
message, but it sounds like a lot of trouble to go to.
If you have any suspicion that the recipient is singling you out for
a failure message, you could test that theory by emailing him from
another account, such as a new Hotmail account.
A temporary failure typically happens when the recipient's mail server
is online but not working properly.

HisName.com

The Domain Name owned by Johnny Holland from Maryland has NO MX Records defined and therefore CANNOT receive any email. He will have to define at least one MX Type record in his DNS Server to receive email and also have a compatible email server. Of course this may be the work of his arch nemesis, Luther !!! (Sorry, couldn't resist as an agnostic !!)

nslookup -type=MX hisname.com

Server: dns-cac-lb-01.orange.rr.com
Address: 66.75.164.90:53

hisname.com
primary name server = ns1.fastpark.net
responsible mail addr = HOSTMASTER.fastpark.net
serial = 2005091502
refresh = 86400 (1 day)
retry = 1800 (30 mins)
expire = 604800 (7 days)
default TTL = 86400 (1 day)

My Domain is SPUBOL.com and I have provided the DNS Lookup records indicating a properly defined MX Record Structure.

My email is eddie@SPUBOL.com (Notice the MX Records in the middle)

C:\Windows\system32>nslookup -type=MX SPUBOL.com
Server: dns-cac-lb-01.orange.rr.com
Address: 66.75.164.90:53

Non-authoritative answer:
SPUBOL.com MX preference = 0, mail exchanger = smtp.secureserver.net
SPUBOL.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mailstore1.secureserver.net

SPUBOL.com nameserver = PARK3.secureserver.net
SPUBOL.com nameserver = PARK4.secureserver.net
mailstore1.secureserver.net internet address = 64.202.166.11
PARK3.secureserver.net internet address = 64.202.165.109
PARK4.secureserver.net internet address = 208.109.80.53

Re: Temporary Failure message!

Don't take "hisname.com" literally. It seemed pretty obvious
the OP was intent on keeping the recipient's name private.

Good analysis, though. Anyone who know how to look up and interpret
domain MX records obviously knows his business.

Okay....so you feel pretty sure that it really is something wrong with
his system...and not that I've been excluded from his email lists? If
I'm understanding you correctly, that would return a PERMANENT FAILURE
unless he had gone in and specifically rigged a TEMPORARY FAILURE to
respond? and Lanscomm? You lost me after you started talking about
