outlook express transfer to windows mail - folders/emails not work

I purchased a new computer running vista - was on xp. I purchased a belkin
transfer cable to transfer all of my info over - when I opened windows mail
it will not let me view any of the previous messages and will not allow me to
download any new - even though I KNOW my mail account settigns are ok. I
spent 2 hours on the phone with Dell on call - they were not able to fix it -
HELP!! Even if I can get to the point of being able to download new messages
under windows mail I will be happy - but it just isn't working.

This problem may be caused by your antivirus program.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee or Norton
security programs. Those will need to be uninstalled.
Replace with a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:

This is not the type of thing that manufacturers handle. If you are saying
the files transferred OK from the XP to the Windows mail but just won't open
you should look here http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx for help with
exporting or try MS Windows Mail website for importing into Win Mail.

If you are saying you cannot download into Windows Mail from your ISP, you
should contact them and they should set you straight on that.
