VISTA MAIL- undeleteable files in junk and delete folders

I have had a load of undeleteable file in my junk folder for ages, , they
cannot be accessed and seem to contain no info just the 'from address' and
the subject.
today my delete file (After a microsoft vista upgrade???) had now 172 files
in the delete folder which I cannot get rid of.
Anybody else have this problem and how do you cure it

Re: VISTA MAIL- undeleteable files in junk and delete folders

This problem may be caused by running a non-compatible
antivirus program. Windows Mail is not compatible with most
McAfee or Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled.
Then, at your convenience, install a more compatible antivirus
like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

This will not cure the damage that already has been done.
The best way to cure that is to upgrade to WLM:
http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas

Go to start..select search..select advanced search..in the window for
Location type everywhere...in the window for name type
windowsmail.msmessagestore...in the select slot type or select "include
non-indexed,hidden and system files...your search will produce two
files.DELETE them. There may be more than two but ONLY two will allow you to
delete them. This will solve your problem. You may have to do a little
rearrangeing of your e-mail folders but you can easily do this.Worked for
me...no thanks to microsoft!!

Re: VISTA MAIL- undeleteable files in junk and delete folders

If one uses this 'fix', they are likely to be plagued by recurring generation of
"Recovered Mail" folders each time you start Windows Mail. I know because
it happened to me.

Re: VISTA MAIL- undeleteable files in junk and delete folders

Gary...you are right! Now that I find I am no smart geek,,,any suggestions as
to how to rid the problem of recovered mail folders other than just deleting
them?(maybe trading my new computer for an older one with win98 or xp).
Thanks

Re: VISTA MAIL- undeleteable files in junk and delete folders

As I see it, you have two options to recover from the 'Recovered'
mail folders problem:

1. You can try the somewhat complicated and laborious "To Reset
Windows Mail" procedure at
Windows Mail problems

2. Or you can upgrade to Windows Live Mail:
http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas

If you have many custom mail folders, or much saved mail, I'd go
with the second option.

Re: VISTA MAIL- undeleteable files in junk and delete folders

You're welcome.
AFAIK, I have no relatives in Iowa, but my last name is not
uncommon among people of Dutch descent.
