| | Compact my Vista Mail folders? How can I compact my Vista Mail folders? Will that make Vista Mail a little faster? It really sucks as it is now. My folders are very large. TIA, Paul |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Compact my Vista Mail folders? You might store the extra messages in a separate user folder with the Import and Export feature in Windows Mail. This will free up the folders and help speed up Windows Mail. Take a look here for other solutions for a slow Windows Mail. Windows Mail Slow Windows Mail should ask you to compact the messages automatically every 100 runs. You can adjust this to be done more often if you like. 1. Click Tools. (In Windows Mail) 2. Click Options. 3. Click Advanced tab. 4. Click Maintenance button. 5. Adjust the count. Hope this helps, Shawn Last edited by Brink; 08-17-2007 at 09:37 AM.. |

| | Re: Compact my Vista Mail folders? NEVER use the STANDARD folders for storing mail (inbox, , etc....) create personal folders and move the mail you want to save to them. then you can change the number of times WM closes before it compacts to ONE and close WM ., it will then compact. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING TILL IT IS DONE. then change the count number back to something reasonable . mikeyhsd@comcast.net "Paul H" <NoSpamphobergNoSpam@att.net> wrote in message news:1B71264B-BFCC-4267-82B7-8E3BB0F03A96@microsoft.com... | | Re: Compact my Vista Mail folders? Thanks, Brink and Mikey. I have now compacted my folders. It helped. I have folders within folders. I use rules to route some emails directly into various folders. Some of my historical folders are very large. This was not a problem with XP Pro's OE6. I use my email as my filing system. I sometimes do searches to find issues I dealt with 5 or more years ago. Also, I have over seven hundred email contacts, so I wait quite a while before any new or replay or forward, etc. email window is available to be used. I can go thru them, but it will be drudgery. I cannot save some obscure ones in another place, then access them when I want them? And if I received an email from one of them, and replied, I'd get a duplicate in my active list of contacts. Again, OE6 didn't penalize me for this. I want OE6 back! Microsoft maybe fixed another thing that wasn't broke! ============================ "mikeyhsd" <mikeyhsd@comcast.net> wrote in message news:OdnVPyM4HHA.600@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... It is better and not buggy like Windows Mail (WM). Everything from WM should be integrated automatically during installation of WLM. You might give it a try. If you do not like it, you can always uninstall WLM and use WM as you have left it. Plus, WLM supports website email as well. Windows Live Mail Beta Shawn |

| | Re: Compact my Vista Mail folders? Looks good. What is this "Windows Live" group of utilities? I never heard of them before. Can I trust them? Can I import my existing contacts and message folders into it? I think I'll try it on one of my old but up-to-date XP Pro laptops. Thank you much for this info. | | Re: Compact my Vista Mail folders? Your reference to "Windows Live group of utilities" is a bit puzzling since the URL given below should show only Windows Live Mail, not the other Windows Live utilities. Some non-US/UK residents have reported being redirected to the general Live page, since MS seems to have some download restrictions for the WLM beta. Yes, WLM will import folders, accounts, settings and saved emails from WM/OE automatically. For Contacts you may need to use the import function manually. I haven't tried WLM on XP, but it works fine on my Vista computers. Paul If your do live outside the US, then like Gary said, you may be redirected to a something other than the download area for WLM. Here is the direct download link for WLM. It will bring up a download box for WLM when you click on it. For non-US and non-UK locations direct download link: http://g.live.com/1rebeta/WLM_en-us ![]() Shawn |
