unable to use/send email in Windows Mail via VZW broadband through charter - need help

Here is the error -- and I can only send connected to the LAN? Charter can't
help -- any suggestions

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account: 'michael
laptop', Server: 'mail.charter.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 421, Secure(SSL):
No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I've never seen that port number before, is it correct?

Also, it may be irrelevant but, certain AV's like Norton and McAfee
never cease to amaze by their ability to screw WM in new and
baffling ways, so with virtually any WM problem removing them
seems a good place to start. Even if they are not factors in
this particular problem they are biding their time and
waiting to bite.

As Julian already indicated, the port number you have (421) is almost
certainly incorrect. Where did you get that from?

Hi Michael,

Try using this port number instead:

SMTP, port: 25

In Windows Mail:
Click Tools, Accounts, Select your account, Properties, Advanced tab.

Then change the SMTP port number to 25 and click Ok.

You can verify here at Charter's website. Click the "Outgoing mail port" under the Advanced tab line.
