| Vista Home Premium | windows mail - "folder could not be displayed" error I am SO glad I found this forum. I just got a new Dell laptop and had to buy an easy transfer cable to transfer my files and email. (Tried doing the email with Express Assist, but it didn't work). Anyway, everytime I'd open my email, it would say "folder couldn't be displayed" and it would tell me that possible problems were low memory, etc. This would happen 95% of the time. Also, in the left pane (folder list), it would only show the Inbox. What a nightmare! I run a business and NEED my email intact and accessible. Anyway, I found this forum. I had McAfee software installed on my computer, and have now completely uninstalled it. My email seems to be working like a charm. However, I want to make SURE that I'm not in for any surprises. Is there anything I should do besides uninstalling McAfee? If so, what is it? I don't want to lose my email. Thanks in advance for your help! Also, does CA Antivirus software work with Windows Mail? |

Welcome to the Vistax64 forum. I do not know about the CA antivirus program, but the free Avast is great one that has not had any problems with Windows Mail. Just make sure that you always have all email scanning options turned off in antivirus programs. Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition Since your running a business, you might want to use something more robust like Outlook instead of Windows Mail. At the very least, switch to Windows Live Mail. It is not buggy like Windows Mail. Windows Live Mail Beta Shawn |

| Vista Home Premium | Re: windows mail - "folder could not be displayed" error Yeah, I'm considering buying Outlook 2007. I'm wondering if I'm going to have problems exporting my winmail to that. Any ideas? |

| Vista Home Premium | Re: windows mail - "folder could not be displayed" error Thanks, Shawn. Since I've uninstalled McAfee, do I need to do anything to my mailbox? Re-import messages, etc.? Or can I just leave it as it is since it seems to be working fine now. I just want to be sure that I don't lose any email. |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: windows mail - "folder could not be displayed" error Nikki, The main thing that messes Windows Mail (WM) up is if you have any email scanning options turned on in a antivirus program. Norton and McAfee seem to mess WM up and Vista regardless of how you have it set. If your happy with it and it serves your needs, then I would not worry about it. You can backup your email messages to another new folder in your personal user folders with the Export option in the WM File menu and Import them when you need them back. Shawn |

| | Re: windows mail - "folder could not be displayed" error Congrats for uninstalling McAfee software and thereby regaining a functional Windows Mail. Yes, CA Antivirus is good, I use it myself. Just be sure to go into its Advanced Settings, Options, and disable email scanning. -- Gary VanderMolen [MS-MVP WLM] "nikki712" <nikki712.2vqk36@xxxxxx-mx.forums.net> wrote in message news:nikki712.2vqk36@xxxxxx-mx.forums.net...
