| Guest | message can't be displayed - can't delete message from inbox I have a message in my inbox that comes up with 'message can not be displayed' so I want to delete it from my inbox, but then I get that 'an unknown error has ocurred' when I try to delete it. How can I get rid of this message? |

| Administrator | Re: message can't be displayed - can't delete message from inbox Your best and easiest option is to switch to Windos Live Mail (WLM). It will include your Windows Mail (WM) settings and messages into it during installation. Contacts may need to be manually imported into it though. http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas If you would like to repair WM, then read the top portion at this link and do the "To Reset Windows Mail" section. It will get rid of the stuck Inbox message. Windows Mail problems Shawn |

| Guest | Re: message can't be displayed - can't delete message from inbox "get.live.com" won't install. It says to try later?? I gather from other emails that it is supposed to copy your address book and emails when you install it. Is this correct? I presume then you would uninstall Windows Mail. Thanks for the help. | Guest | Re: message can't be displayed - can't delete message from inbox You may want to try the direct download site: http://g.live.com/1rebeta/WLM_en-us WLM automatically copies all your WM accounts, settings, and saved emails. It doesn't always get the contacts, but there is a contacts import function you can use. If you use the option to sign in to a Hotmail account, it will copy your Hotmail contacts and keep those synchronized. You cannot uninstall WM, it is part of the Vista OS. | Administrator | Re: message can't be displayed - can't delete message from inbox Try the direct download link the Gary Provided. It will bring up the download box for Windows Live Mail (WLM). http://g.live.com/1rebeta/WLM_en-us You cannot uninstall Windows Mail (WM). WLM will replace all of WM's shortcuts and import everything from WM into it except the Contacts. You will have to manually import those. See the top area under "Windows Live Mail Beta" at this site to see how to import your contacts into WLM. Windows Mail problems Shawn |

How can I get rid of > this message? The best thing to do is ignore them. If you are not willing to just ignore them, the only way is to delete both copies of the database (which does not contain the messages, but only references to them) and let WinMail rebuild it. First close WinMail, then use Task Manager to make sure there are no instances of it under applications or processes. Then click Start | Search | Advanced Search Check the box to include non-indexed, hidden and system files. In the Name field type WindowsMail.MSMessageStore and click the Search button. It should show you two copies. Delete both of them and re-open WinMail. WinMail will work in the background and recover all of the messages that are really there. Although some people have said they lost all messages doing this, WinMail should recover them in the Recovered Messages folders. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM Do not send mail. |

| Guest | Re: message can't be displayed - can't delete message from inbox Frank - I tried your solution and I always get an error "The action cannot be completed because the file is open in another program". MS Mail is closed and I do not know what to do next. My message is stuck in the outbox with an error "the message could not be displayed" "Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE/WM" wrote: Quote: > "bhayes" <bhayes@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:00142098-8784-4891-92A3-9B547FB87B57@xxxxxx Quote: > >I have a message in my inbox that comes up with 'message can not be > > displayed' so I want to delete it from my inbox, but then I get that 'an > > unknown error has ocurred' when I try to delete it. | Guest | Re: message can't be displayed - can't delete message from inbox That method should no longer be used. Microsoft has released a newer fix: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090 "Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer that is running Windows Vista" -- Gary VanderMolen [MS MVP-WLM] "Jason Wallace" <Jason Wallace@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:9F6DDFDF-3B9B-475F-93C0-CA76465A9EC2@xxxxxx Quote: > Frank - I tried your solution and I always get an error "The action cannot be > completed because the file is open in another program".
