Vista - Unable to delete message from Inbox

I have read a lot of the many items about this problem but mine is now more
serious.

I tried a fix submitted by Frank Saunders which said to delete the 2 copies
of the Mail database. Having done this Win Mail will not now load at all and
I get the message "Windows Mail could not be started as it is being used by
another program such as a virus scanner." Mine (AVG) is turned off. When
you click OK I then get "Windows Mail could not be started. MSOE.DLL could
not be initialized."

I have several hundred e-mail messages which it seems I may have lost. How
can I reset Windows Mail and make it all work again?

Hi Sussexwolf,

Read the top portion at this link and do the "To Reset Windows Mail" section. It should repair your problem and allow you to access those emails. I would recommend for you to switch to Windows Live Mail after you get Window Mail up again. It is not buggy like WM.

P.S. - I have now tried to install Live Mail Beta but it says the Mail Store
is corrupt and Live Mail closes with an error !!!!

PLEASE - how can I restore my e-mails. I am desparate !!

1. Save a copy of the "Local Folders" folder in a new folder in a separate area like in your personal user "Documents" or "Downloads".

3. Now install WLM.

Sounds like Windows Live Mail inherited the corrupted message store
from Windows Mail. Since your emails are already backed up elsewhere,
try deleting the entire Windows Live Mail folder:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail.

If that doesn't fix WLM, let me know. Or you could hold off for a week
since a newer version of WLM is imminent.

I got so fed up with WLM I uninstalled it, and I have now also deleted the
folder you mentioned. The old Windows Mail is at least working which is
better than nothing.

I won't try WLM again until there is a new version, then see what happens.

Is Windows Mail working completely normal again for you?

Windows Live Mail (WLM) was probably corrupted if you ran the installation before repairing Windows Mail (WM). Now that if you have WM running like normal, you should be able to install WLM with no problems after you run the uninstaller Gary provided to make sure that WLM is completely cleared out.

The problem was that when WLM installs, it automatically imports the data from WM. Since WM's Message store was toasted, WLM was unable to import it properly causing the error.
