| | Unable to delete message from Inbox I have read a lot of the many items about this problem but mine is now more serious. I tried a fix submitted by Frank Saunders which said to delete the 2 copies of the Mail database. Having done this Win Mail will not now load at all and I get the message "Windows Mail could not be started as it is being used by another program such as a virus scanner." Mine (AVG) is turned off. When you click OK I then get "Windows Mail could not be started. MSOE.DLL could not be initialized." I have several hundred e-mail messages which it seems I may have lost. How can I reset Windows Mail and make it all work again? |

It should repair your problem and allow you to access those emails. I would recommend for you to switch to Windows Live Mail after you get Window Mail up again. It is not buggy like WM. I have copied the whole Windows Mail folder but as it seems to have some corruption I'm not sure how much use it will be. And Live Mail will not run either. What next? Any suggestions? | | Re: Unable to delete message from Inbox P.S. again -- I have just restored the Windows Mail folder from my backup done 3 days ago (by Windows Backup and Restore). Windows Mail now works again but I have (of course) lost 3 days of messages. BUT - Live Mail still will not work. After several minutes of trying to configure itself it just says an error has occurred and the program ends. I think I will go back to snail mail - at least it used to arrive. Any further help anyone can give me will be most welcome. I would like to try Live Mail but it won't let me. Robin Winter The messages may be to corrupted to restore, but we will try anyway. Use that link and "To Reset Windows Mail" as a guide for this. 1. Save a copy of the "Local Folders" folder in a new folder in a separate area like in your personal user "Documents" or "Downloads". 2. Delete everything. (See step 6 and 7) This should reset windows mail to a clean slate. 3. Now install WLM. 4. When done installing WLM, Import your emails from the copied "Local Folders" location. Shawn |

| | Re: Unable to delete message from Inbox Sounds like Windows Live Mail inherited the corrupted message store from Windows Mail. Since your emails are already backed up elsewhere, try deleting the entire Windows Live Mail folder: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail. If that doesn't fix WLM, let me know. Or you could hold off for a week since a newer version of WLM is imminent. | | Re: Unable to delete message from Inbox You may also want to run the WL-Beta-remove tool so that it cleans out any traces of WLM from the registry, which will insure better success the next time you install WLM. The tool is described here, under "Problem 1": http://windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com/blog/ Although it specifically mentions Live Writer, it also applies to Live Mail. The download is here: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...eta-remove.zip Gary VanderMolen "sussexwolf" <sussexwolf@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:946A398F-9073-42C5-9F18-CE2A253A5C20@xxxxxx Quote: >I got so fed up with WLM I uninstalled it, and I have now also deleted the > folder you mentioned. Thanks for your help so far Robin Winter Is Windows Mail working completely normal again for you? Windows Live Mail (WLM) was probably corrupted if you ran the installation before repairing Windows Mail (WM). Now that if you have WM running like normal, you should be able to install WLM with no problems after you run the uninstaller Gary provided to make sure that WLM is completely cleared out. The problem was that when WLM installs, it automatically imports the data from WM. Since WM's Message store was toasted, WLM was unable to import it properly causing the error. Hope this helps, Shawn |
