Ok, I hit spell check on my new computer and get a message that that language
is no longer supported by spell check. besides the obvious comment on the
state of our nation and no I do not live in california, what the heck is
going on ???

Go to Tools, Options, Spelling.
Select another language, click Apply. Reselect English, click Apply.

If the languages are missing, then you can look here for how to fix it.

And if what Gary said doesn't work ,you might check to see if your dictionary
file has become detached or corrupted.
