I'll you have Norton or McAfee antivirus software preinstalled on your new PC you should give serious consideration to getting rid of them since they are incompatible with Windows Mail and will screw you in due course (randomly but at a time of maximum inconvenience.) A tried and tested alternative is Avast (free.) http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html NB. Email AV scanning is superfluous and should be omitted during the install process. http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 |

| | Re: Windows Mail Server names If you've worked in this business for any length of time, you'd know that the reply that was given was the correct one. Every ISP and mail provider has their own mail servers, and each gives their servers unique names. There are probably in the neighborhood of 20,000 mail server names. The best source for getting the correct mail server name is one's ISP or mail provider. -- Gary VanderMolen [MS-MVP WLM] "piinklady" <piinklady@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:3C054EF2-A14B-49A6-8A83-7E0D06317853@xxxxxx Quote: >i am new to this forum. so i like looking through the problems for when i > stumble. it would be nice to think that there are genuine people that want to > help. bearing in mind, this person needing help with there pop and smtp have > probably been pulling there hair out for hours before they even got to here. > and thats the reply they get. enough to smash ones computer up completley. > now i never know wether answers are genuine or not. thanks > > "Chris Cowles" wrote: > Quote: >> "Julian" <Julianlzb87@xxxxxx> wrote in message >> news:3ADB925F-742B-4EB5-930A-F15BFD06B458@xxxxxx Quote: >> > >> > Since you pay Orange for an email service they are the >> > logical people to ask and they owe you the support, nevertheless... >> > >> > http://tinyurl.com/3crqxa >> That doesn't explain to the user what their pop3 and smtp settings >> should be. >> >> >> |
