When i create a new post (like this one) it is highlighted + any replies to
it are also highlighted

When i reply to someone elses post it is highlighted, but any replies to me
are not highlighted?

Sometimes they are. WinMail is very inconsistent about this.

I notice also that the actual red newsgroup highlighter doesn't always work
despite my posts being highlighted
