| | Re: Windows Mail (Vista) vs Windows Live Mail vs Windows Hotmail Yeah, the page I linked to is the typical glossy end user spiel, very short on technical details. Sorry, the installer for the new 'Live' products can't do 64-bit installs. Microsoft earlier today promised to develop a workaround. The newest version of WLM is 12.0.1365. Gary VanderMolen "R. C. | | Re: Windows Mail (Vista) vs Windows Live Mail vs Windows Hotmail Hi, Gary. Yeah, that page was written by Marketing, wasn't it? Long on all the wonderful things that we can do with the new Live, but very short on details of HOW we can do those things. :>( A user named "fi3ryfr3ako" has posted a fix in microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop, Subject: A How-To Guide to Installing The Windows Live Suite. Unfortunately, I can't find my hex editor to make the one-byte patch to WLInstaller.exe, so I can't try it yet. Maybe MSFT will come through with the 64-bit installer and I won't have to do it myself. RC -- R. C. | | Re: Windows Mail (Vista) vs Windows Live Mail vs Windows Hotma I think the clue to my original question is here. Has it got something to do with what is referred to as a "desktop client" ie.WM and a "web based client" ie. WLM? Do I have the terminology right?? Is there an advantage or a preference for desktop vesus web based clients/services??? Thanks, bj "EW" wrote: Quote: > Thanks, R.C., for the good info. Just what I wanted to hear. | | Re: Windows Mail (Vista) vs Windows Live Mail vs Windows Hotma No. Both WLM and WM are 'desktop' clients, meaning a stand-alone email program that doesn't use a browser for mail reading. | | Re: Windows Mail (Vista) vs Windows Live Mail vs Windows Hotma Thanks again Gary. I guess I'll just wait until WLM comes out of beta or I find I need more than what WM gives me. Just keep monitoring this forum, since this will be one of the first few places where the final release of WLM will be announced.
