McAfee

A while back I had trouble with stuck messages and was told that it could be
my McAfee and its problems relating to the new windows mail. My subscription
is coming due shortly and I want to make the best choice for my new Vista and
windows mail. I also have outlook express and XP on my old computer which I
still use so I want somehting that is compatible with both. If McAfee is
still a problem please tell me. And also give me an alternative.
Thanks,
Sandy

I'd recommend using AVG Free http://free.grisoft.com/ or Avast (also free)
http://www.avast.com/ I'd recommend using the built in Windows Firewall and
Windows Defender.

Hi Sandy,

Yes, unfortunately McAfee and Norton still have problems with Windows Mail.

Some Free Alternative Antivirus Programs :

NOTE: These work with Vista x32 or x64 with no problems, but will need to have their email scanning options turned off as well.

Avast - http://avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

AVG - (Do a Custom install and don't install email scanning) http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: McAfee

Do they do the auto updates like McAfee? I am auto update dependent.

Re: McAfee

I know I'll get shot down in flames here, but McAfee's new 2008 products are
much better at handling WM plus they are 32/64bit Vista compatible. Not
yet released, though it should be soon.

Hi Peter,

Not at all. I hope McAfee can pull it out and get things working right again, but just in case they do not. See:

Re: McAfee

If true, it's about time they came out with fully compatible Vista products.
Still, given their track record I would not buy their stuff.
