can't send emails use Windows Liveone care antiviral

I was looking at the previous posts and most of the others that can't send
emails usually either have their emails scanned by Norton or have an email
stuck.

I have the Windows Live OneCare anti viral software and according to their
help doesn't scan the email messages. I am getting the following error
message

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject '', Account: 'pop.earthlink.net', Server:
'smtpauth.earthlink.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F

I have restarted the computer and looked at all of the settings and it all
seems to be correct??? I was able to send and recieve messages in the past.
Please help.
Thank you!
Melissa

Do you have the SPA box checked? Is the password and ID there correct? Can
you get web mail from Earthlink?

Did you check the box under Outgoing that "My server requires
authentication"?

Re: can't send emails use Windows Liveone care antiviral

Do you have "My server requires authentication" checked? It
should be. However, the error message does not suggest that
this is the problem. I don't see an obvious reason for the failure,
other than it acts like interference from an antivirus.

Try deleting the account, then recreate it from scratch.

Re: can't send emails use Windows Liveone care antiviral

I do have the "my server requires authentication" checked. I can send emails
from web mail. I have deleted and recreated the account with no luck. I get
the same exact error message.

Re: can't send emails use Windows Liveone care antiviral

I don't know what else to advise you, Melissa. This is a real mystery!

You might consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail. It seems to be
a lot less prone to developing problems.

Again under servers, make sure "Li\ogon using Secure Password
Authentication" is NOT checked.
