Re: The Connection to the server has failed...

McAfee and Norton existed before VISTA. They are THE major AV vendors. If
these programs function with VISTA, then they certainly cooperated with
Microsoft at large. It seems that Microsoft Mail is a different development
team that went their own way. Did they flip off McAfee and Norton
conventions? Does the problem also exist with Outlook 2007?

Re: The Connection to the server has failed...

There is no such thing as "Norton and McAfee conventions" unless
you mean incompetence. Norton and McAfee programmers are constantly
making mistakes, year in and year out, which those of us who have worked in
this industry for many years know only too well. Here is just an example of
their latest screw-ups:

McAfee: http://helpme.att.net/article.php?item=11258

Norton: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Syman...ss-73135.shtml

Some email providers block connections to port 25 that cross from one
internet provider's equipment to another's. A few do this for connections
to other ports as well.

Re: The Connection to the server has failed...

I also had the same problem and am running Trend Micro Virus protection. Can
you tellme specifically where to go in it to turn off the spam email filter?
Also, Did you re-enable it after you set up the Windows email client, or did
you leave it off. If "off", do you get much spam?

Re: The Connection to the server has failed...

A recent version of the Trend antivirus software (details not available)
also
causes various problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately,
and must be uninstalled (not just disabled) to stop it from causing these
problems.

You may wish to replace it with another antivirus program. I recommend
either avast! or AVG for home use, either one with a custom install that
tells it to leave out the part that scans email, or NOD32 for business use.

Re: The Connection to the server has failed...

Your email provider should have a help page on their website with the
correct names and settings.

Then go to Tools - Accounts
to enter the information.

Re: The Connection to the server has failed...

You mention "my outlook". Is that really the name of your email program?
We can't offer support for Outlook in this forum since we only support
Windows Mail here. If you meant the latter, then your best bet is to
upgrade to Windows Live Mail:
