| | want default mail program to be msn... Have used msn on an xp computer as default just fine. now have new laptop with vista, it keeps wanting to use windows mail...which I DONT want to use. I have followed ALL tech instructions about going to, default programs, then set program access & computer defaults, then custom. Once in custom I select choose a default email program...I have selected use my current email. And when browsing with IE and i come across a link to send an email (like craigslist) it opens windows mail, and wants me to configure it. Like anything NEW, I cant get help from anyone! Compaq says not my problem, msn says not my problem, and am going to try microsoft...but we'll see. I am ready to return the computer at this point! -- Vic |

| | RE: want default mail program to be msn... Probably shouldn't jump in here since I'm not familiar with MSN mail (execept MSN Hotmail), but you don't describe what your current email program is that you want Windows to use. Do you read your mail on the web at a MSN site or do you download it to your computurer using HTTP, POP3 or IMAP protocols and an email application such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail, Eudora or a plethora of others? To be able to tell you why Vista won't use your current email program we would have to know exactly what it is (beyond MSN) and how it was configured. Can you get your MSN mail correctly now? Have you tried associated the mail type (eml?) to your MSN email application? -- qfreed "newlaptop" wrote: Quote: > Have used msn on an xp computer as default just fine. now have new laptop > with vista, it keeps wanting to use windows mail...which I DONT want to use. > I have followed ALL tech instructions about going to, default programs, then > set program access & computer defaults, then custom. | | RE: want default mail program to be msn... I have the same problem. I have yahoo mail and gmail, accessed through the web. Is there any way to make one of them my default email? Thanks for your help. | | Re: want default mail program to be msn... I don't know of any way to set a webmail service as your default email, except for Hotmail. This is a much requested item, sure hope someone comes up with a solution. You probably know that Gmail can be accessed via a standard POP client as well as via the web. US-based free Yahoo accounts have web access only. Gary VanderMolen "frustrated" <frustrated@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:5315B7A5-7F88-44C8-BEF4-FC42362FFC23@xxxxxx Quote: >I have the same problem. | | Re: want default mail program to be msn... It seems obvious from your trouble report that choosing "use my current email program" is the wrong choice. The problem seems to be that "MSN email" is not a choice that is offered. This would appear to be a limitation of, or fault of, MSN email. If you pay MSN good money, it would think it is their obligation to help you make MSN email work properly on your computer. I am not familiar with MSN email, but I take it that it uses a web browser for reading mail? You might be able to use the fix that allows Hotmail to be set as the default email: http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/224/1/ Hope this helps.
