    Windows Mail

I have loaded Vista on a new clean laptop and I'm having some problems with
Windows mail. It will send and recieve messages on startup but then won't
check regularly (which I have set up) or let me manually check. I have to
close the application and start again.
Also, the blue number in brackets indicating unread messages in a particular
folder, doesn't update, again I have to close and reopen the application.
Thanks in advance for any help

What happens when you click on Tools/Send and Receive/Send and Receive All?

What happens when you click on Tools/Synchronize All?

Nothing happens when I do either. It doesn't even go through the
send/receive process and give me an error message. It seem to be fine
periodically checking for new messages until I send a message and then I have
to close and reopen the application.

Can you show the full error message? The experts here often need parts
of it that you might not expect.

Also, what if any antivirus programs are on your machine, and what other
    programs from Norton or Symantec?

    Tools | Accounts
    Double click the account.
Is the option to include the account when sending and synchronizing checked?

I don't actually get any error messages. Just have Norton 360

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled.

    Re: Windows Mail

"Norton" was the clue we needed.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most Norton or
McAfee security programs. Those will need to be
    uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
    http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see
