How to import emails from Windows Mail to Outlook Express?

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-TX57GN with Microsoft Vista Business. Since I
am not satisfied with Vista performance as an operating system, I
downgraded to Microsoft Windows XP Professional. Now I have the backup
folder from Windows Mail email backup folder named as LOCAL FOLDERS
which includes all the data folders and email data from Windows Mail
but unfortunately I am unable to transfer back to Outlook Express.

Has anyone had similar experience?
Can anyone help me with that?

Best Regards

Windows Mail stores all messages in .EML format which, conveniently, is the
same format Outlook Express uses (though OE takes it a step further by
placing these .EML files into .DBX storage files). All you need to do is
copy the .EML files and take them to your XP/OE machine where you can drag
and drop them into OE folders.

Re: How to import emails from Windows Mail to Outlook Express?

thank you so much. I'm also tired of vista, as my drivers are acting up. I
am thinking about downgrading back to XP. This was very helpful. Just make
sure you drag and drop the .EML file into the actual outlook express
application. I thought maybe drag & drop them into were the messages were
stored as .dbx, but it's actually the application...THANKS!=)

Re: How to import emails from Windows Mail to Outlook Express?

I had a similar problem in that I saved my Windows Mail on a flash drive before I installed Windows 7 RC. Then I found that the RC didn't include Windows Mail, and I couldn't open my messages or import them into another mail program.

So I plugged the flash drive into another machine that had Outlook Express on it, and I tried moving the Windows Mail "Local" files into the Store Folder (something like C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{127A226F-CB69-43D8-8237-A258186163C0}\Microsoft\Outlook Express). This move didn't cause the WM messages to come up in OE folders, but I did see that WM files are indeed *.eml format, and I could just click on one to open in OE. In the end I still didn't know how to move the Local folder of messages from WM to OE, so I just e-mailed the files to myself with OE and opened the ones I needed. Anyone have a more explicit, step-by-step situation for getting WM mail files into OE?

Thanks--

Gary
