Vista - Windows Photo Gallery won't open pictures but gallery does open

In Vista Home Premium, when double clicking any picture any place on the
computer, the Windows Photo Gallery will open, but the PICTURES WILL NOT
open. HP had me make a new registry key, but that did not work. They had me
reboot in the safe mode. It did not work and WPG did not open after that
until I restarted again in the normal mode. Now they want me to perform a
System Recovery. Surely, there is some fix/setting for this besides this
step. Do you have any ideas?

(WPGallery works perfectly on my HP laptop so I know it is glitch on the hp
desktop.)
