Encoding problems DVD Maker

Using windows movie maker, then publishing the project to burn to DVD in "DVD
maker", at the encoding stage the process doesn't go past 20.4% I also at one
stage had an error message saying "catastrophic failure" can anyone help?

RE: Encoding problems DVD Maker

I'm seeing exactly the same thing, only I get to 32% before it fails! I'm
working with Vista 32 Ultimate. Any suggestions?

RE: Encoding problems DVD Maker

I've had problems like that but only with files made with windows movie
maker, other files work fine. Until I find a more permanent solution( thats
what I'm looking for now) I recomvert the files with another video converter
and they work fine. The one I'm using I got at
http://www.protectedsoft.com/download.php
Its a freeware download and I've used it for a while now with no problems.
I hope it works for you guys.

Re: Encoding problems DVD Maker

None of you are alone - I have been whingeing for days to Dell who sold me an Inspiron Laptopn about exactly the same problem with Windows DVD maker. I was so excited that Moviemaker now allowed you to burn DVD's (Office 2003 did not, which was an incredibly STUPID bit of programming) and then plummeted to the depths of despair with each failed attempt at burning the DVD, getting to 16-20% encoded each time. Once, once only, I managed to get the whole thing done only to find the completed DVD had large holes with no data at all in it!!!

I even tried transferring to another computer running Adobe editor which allows you to burn DVD's and which I have used succesfully in the past, but Office 2003 doesn't recognized WSAMM files created with Office 2007. Makes you want to scream. I will try the converter file suggested on this post.

Re: Encoding problems DVD Maker

Further to the suggestions above- I treid downlaoding the video converter and DVD making software from protectedsoft.com however the programme does not recognize the Movie maker file - ie it tell sme there is nothing on the timeline (Osec). I tried downloading the Vista codecs as suggested but that made no difference.

Even more frustrating, the Windows DVDmaker help suggested I check that my edited project runs on Windows Media Player...but that programme doesn't recognize the MSWMM extension. Can you believe it?

Any one help?

Re: Encoding problems DVD Maker

The MSWMM is the project file. You need to save the movie from the project,
which will result in a WMV file.

Re: Encoding problems DVD Maker

Hello, I am having the same problem with the encoding. I have only made it to
66.8% and then the computer either freezes or just stops working. Have you
had any luck with anything you have tried. I was on the phone with Dell two
hours last night and they have no idea about software issues, yet windows
can't help me becaause dell bought the license. Im about to scream. I bought
the 1525 ispiron from Dell a week ago, and couldn't wait to use the movie
making software. No luck yet...
Any ideas?
Thank you in advance
Tara

Re: Encoding problems DVD Maker

Tara - No luck I'm sorry. The Office 2007 Moviemaker is much better than the 2003 and I find it really user friendly BUT I couldn't burn a movie for love or money, no matter how many solutions I tried. I blamed Dell but they couldn't help me and , well you've read everyones' issues with Microsoft. I have given up and gone back to my other computer to use the previous moviemaker and had to reedit the entire movie, since Moviemaker 2003 doesn't recognize files from 2007!!!! I then transfer it to Adobe premier and burn a movie (in theory... it has worked in the past).

Sorry, I can't be of any great help

How about using Windows Media Center to burn the DVD? Not Media Player, but
Media Center. Also, is the system adequate to the job? Encoding video is
incredibly processor intensive. You might try disabling any antivirus
scanners running during the time you are trying to encode and burn the job.
