CloneDVD 2.9.0.9 works well on Vista, as does
DVDShrink 3.2.0.15. These programs make what are called ISO Images of your DVDs. You can then use
Alcohol 52% to mount these ISO Images into a virtual dvd drive so you can watch them. Use Nero to burn the ISO images to disc again.
If you don't want to create ISO Images, you can use
Magic DVD Ripper 5.0.1 to "rip" the DVD movie to harddrive to a video format such as DivX or Windows Media. This will give the benfit of being able to play the movie in Windows Media Player, or to use Media Center to stream you movies to an extender such as an XBox 360.
The line between using these programs for legit purposes and piracy is rather blurred, so be careful about overstepping the bounds of the law.
