| | Re: playing an avi movie You are probably missing a codec. You can download a nice free utility called GSpot (Google for it) that will analyze the clip and tell you what codec it needs. It is most likely DivX which you can download from divx.com. WARNING: Avoid at all costs "codec packs". They can interfere with Windows Media Player. Windows Movie Maker and Windows DVD Maker.
