Windows Movie Maker: I filmed in 16:9, Plays and saves only in 4:3

I recently filmed a video in 16:9. It plays in that ratio on my PC's DVD
application but in WMP and WMM it plays in a distorted ratio. It looks like
it's been squashed from both sides a bit. In WMM I went into 'Tools' and
adjust to 16:9 but the viewing window changed shape and not the video's
ratio. When adding credits and effects in WMM, they filled the 16:9 screen,
but the video remained the same. It's as though I'm watching a widescreen
video on a 4:3 screen. At the point of publishing my video to my PC, I chose
the 16:9 WMV format. After it saved, the credits and effects still fill the
widescreen, but the video is still distorted.

The original video is a VOB file. Any suggestions?

RE: Windows Movie Maker: I filmed in 16:9, Plays and saves only in 4:3

Hi, I am having the same trouble. It doesn't matter what the format of the
video is, it always comes out in 4:3. Only the menu comes out correctly 6:9.
I have burnt in Nero (the same video file that I tried in DVD maker) and
there was no problem. If anyone has an answer I would be pleased to hear from
them.

widescreen 16:9 camera?

It's a widescreen 16:9 camera. The viewing panel is widscreen and the DVD's
I made are the correct ratio when shown on my TV and my widescreen monitor.
As I said, the credits I made in WMM fill the screen, but the film doesn't.
Basically, playing the DVD is fine, but saving it to my PC using WMM changed
the ratio;

What difference dose that make idiot. If movie maker was functional, you
should be able to set any file to any format you like. Not be given a list
of formats which only add black bars to the sides.

Windows movie maker see's every file as a 4:3 no matter what you do.
