message. Been to wmplugins and can't get any info on proper codec for WMP11
Vista 32 codec files. Not real savey on aquiring proper codec and installing.
Any info and direction would be appreciated.

Re: Codecs???

You should note that zachd (a Microsoft employee, and lead developer of Windows
Media Player, I believe) thinks that the K-Lite Codec Pack is pure evil and will
damage several of Vista's multimedia capabilities (DVD Maker, Movie Maker and
Media Player). He strongly recommends avoiding the K-Lite Codec Pack at all
costs.

Re: Codecs???

Well, hoodee hoo!! Nice to get that inspiring post Cal Bear. Does zachd have
input to this forum, so as to possibly get direction for getting WMP 11 to
function with the multitudes of software I have that implies it's Vista 32
bit campatable. Bottom line is the audio & video codecs with WMP aren't there
for my motorola phone tools software. I pretty much have disgust for Vista,
seeing as I loaded Moto on my other XP computor & GO FIGURE!!!!! it works.
Probably gonna toilet the Vista. I'm convinced it's a pretty & shinny piece
of S--T!!!

Thanks,
Stu

Re: Codecs???

Yes, zachd (nice guy) does occasionally visit the Vista newsgroups.

Have you consulted Motorola? Any available Vista downloads from the Motorola
site?

Why don't you post your specific problem and what you have tried to do to the
microsoft.public windows.vista hardware_devices group? I'm sure there are many
users with your phone.

Whining and bitching will get you nowhere!

Re: Codecs???

Well after looking at this link, I can see where the Motorola razr V9
phone tools aren't up to speed with Vista yet. They should
be, or at least trying.
'Motorola OEM Mobile Phone Tools Software CD 4.0 + USB Cable 98654J
SKN6371' (http://www.igonemobile.com/product.aspx?p=13639)

Cal Bear '66, I have downloaded K-Lite (standard) Codecs on my Vista
Business laptop. WMP11 is on V-Business, but for some reason (or other)
the business person doesn't need to use it (?) I couldn't play any DVD's
until I installed the free K-Lite codecs. These codecs haven't hurt
anything on my machine...they did make it work tho'

I do not advise people to go looking 'willy-nilly' for just any codecs.
That's a Vundo Trojan waiting to happen. I've seen and cleaned many
infected computers of this mess.

K-Lite Mega breaks DVD Maker. Use K-Lite at your own risk: it's clearly
still got problems. =\

Re: Codecs???

Howdy, I'm ZachD. Nice to virtually meet you.

I don't know what audio/video your Motorola phone tools use, so couldn't
comment. That should be pretty easy to figure out, though, given the file
type for starters.

I'm guessing they're using some random MPEG file type... ? It's kind of
cruel of them to fob those off on users and not advise as to how to actually
play the files. =\

If I were you, I would complain to them and ask them to make that clearer.
That would seem to be a nice usability tweak they could make. =\

Re: Codecs???

I'm so amused at how we all continue to be annoyed at the lack of
compatability with all our differant software. It's always that the vender
hasn't developed there product to work with Vista. Do any of us remember XP.
It was not the cluster ---- because Microsoft was at least smart enough to
include drivers and such to make it easier for products to be compatable. You
would think that progression to Vista would have taken that into
consideration. Cyberlink, Roxio, Adobe ATI, Nividia and on and on require
multitudes of manpower to function the way they advertise. It'll say Vista
compatable, because it will install, however, diifferant aspects of the
products run into problems due to missing elements or compatability with
media and audio. It is, and will be a Microsoft problem until they fix Media
Player 11 and Vista. Microsoft can't expect customers to sit on the phone or
websites for hours and hours with venders so called customer support each
time we purchase new software. I'm not whining Cal Bear, I'm simply venting
about the unreliability of a potentially great product that sucks!!! Try this
people, if possible... Load same software on an XP OS and watch how the video
camera, audio, cell phone, pictures, DVD burning magically works. Enough
said, thanks for your your time, I'm gonna be busy reformating my PC back to
XP.
