CDs play fine, but not DVDs.

I'm using Vista ultimate for both vista 32 and 64, so from what i understand
Ultimate comes with the proper codecs. Fails with both 32 and 64.

I've tried all the items below, but no luck.

1)Tried different DVDs thinking maybe some where scratched, but still no go.
2) Deleted CD/DVD drivers and re-installed them, but still did not fix it.
3) Contacted HP support - they said to do a complete re-install. No thanks.
4) Microsft article suggested deleting filters which i did, no go.
5) Tried playing DVD within media player



HP m8120n
atapi dh16a1l cd/DVD drive
Vista 32 and 64
6GB Memory

Any suggestions??

What specifically happens when you try to play the DVDs back?
