Vista Tutorial - AVI Thumbnails Not Generating

Hello,

My thumbnails for videofiles used to work just fine, but now very few AVI
files have a thumbnail. I tried disk cleanup, but that did not work. I use
Picasa and thumbnails exist within that program. A related problem with
Movie Maker, when I import a video no thumbnail is created, just an AVI icon
appears in the imported media folder. When I try to preview in Movie Maker
the progress bar moves as if the video is playing , but there is no sound or
picture. The videos all play fine in Windows Media Player. What is going on
here? Thanks for the help. -Travis

What video codecs are affected?
What have you installed to your system? I've been hearing rumblings that
the Haali AVI splitter can muss things up.
