Error when editing image clip length in Movie Maker

When I lengthen or shorten an image clip in the Timeline view of Movie Maker,
I encounter the following error message:

Windows Movie Maker has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close
the program and notify you if a solution is available.

The Event Viewer reports the following error under Windows Logs > Application:

This error occurs intermittently usually once every 5-10 times when I try
resizing the clip. I am running Movie Maker version 6.0 (Build 6000) on
Vista. Please advise on how I can address this issue. Thanks!
