| | tagging photos in Windows Photo Gallery When you tag photos in the Windows Photo Gallery, I see it saves the photo in the original dated file as well as in the tagged file. Is there a way to make sure there are not two copies of the photo as to save space? -- jessk |

| | Re: tagging photos in Windows Photo Gallery I do not seem get files duplicated when I tag them. How are you looking at the file to see the duplicate? Maybe the other one is hidden from me? The file I see has 'changed date/time' set to when I add the tag as expected. | | Re: tagging photos in Windows Photo Gallery My pictures are all listed according to date. I created new tags and was just dragging the pictures from the dated files to the newly created tag. The picture remains in the dated file when I look there but is also in the tagged file. Thanks! -- jessk "Michael Walraven" wrote: Quote: > I do not seem get files duplicated when I tag them. | | Re: tagging photos in Windows Photo Gallery I am way confused here. To 'tag' a file in Photo Gallery you right click it and select 'add a tag' (you can also do as I think you are trying to do 'drag' it to a already existing tag, but that is pretty cumbersome when adding multiple tags ) Perhaps you created a 'folder' rather than a tag and then did a 'drag' to that folder. A 'tag' is something attached to the file, it is not a location. On the Photo Gallery left pane there should be All pictures and Videos Recently Imported Tags Date Taken Ratings Folders It sounds like you may be in the 'folders' view when you are dragging the picture. In sum, I suggest that you right click a picture, select add tag and add any tags you want. This rather than creating a tag first and then dragging to that tag. After you tag the file, you will be able to see it by many attributes, by date, by tags, by names. Just because you can now see it multiple ways does not mean it is duplicated. It just can be accessed by multiple attributes. So I am still not sure why you think the file is duplicated. One thing you can do is to right click the picture, select properties, and general tab. This will show the actual name and the location that it is at. If there actually duplicate pictures they will have different names or locations. | | Re: tagging photos in Windows Photo Gallery I know. I am a bit confusing. In the left pane, I was clicking on Create New Tag and then once I created one, I was dragging the pictures into that tag. I didn't realize you could just add the tag right to the picture by right clicking on it. I guess I didn't really know what a tag was. So, to be clear, just because I can click on my "vacation" tag and see my pictures there and also click on July 2007 and see those same pictures does not mean that the pictures are saved on my computer twice. It simply means they can be viewed in a couple of different places? Thanks! -- jessk "Michael Walraven" wrote: Quote: > I am way confused here. > > To 'tag' a file in Photo Gallery you right click it and select 'add a tag' > (you can also do as I think you are trying to do 'drag' it to a already > existing tag, but that is pretty cumbersome when adding multiple tags ) > > Perhaps you created a 'folder' rather than a tag and then did a 'drag' to > that folder. > > A 'tag' is something attached to the file, it is not a location. > > On the Photo Gallery left pane there should be > All pictures and Videos > Recently Imported > Tags > Date Taken > Ratings > Folders > > It sounds like you may be in the 'folders' view when you are dragging the > picture. > > > In sum, I suggest that you right click a picture, select add tag and add any > tags you want.
