Vista - Autoplay launches all application

I was going to install programs on my new laptop from a CDto when Windows
media center interface pops up. I could not install the program. But also all
other installed software that I click on would only launch Windows Media
Player. I have tried resetting autoplay defaults to "take no action" and
uncheck the box for "use autoplay for all media and devices" to no effect

Help!!

So if you run any EXE the player launches? That sounds lke the .exe
association is corrupt and should be reset.
